Meet our coaches!

Coach: Joëlle Beard (Jo)

    Coach Joëlle swam competitively for twelve years, and continues to swim several miles each day, as well as compete and participate in US Masters swimming. 
    She began coaching swimming in 2008, since that point she has had a lot of great experiences. Joëlle is a member of the American Swimming Coaches Association. 
    In September of 2012, Joëlle became the first woman from Utah to swim the English Channel. 
    In August of 2013, Joëlle swam the Catalina Channel from Catalina Island to Los Angeles. 
     In June of 2014 Joelle swam around Manhattan Island and became the 87th person on the world to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.


Coach: Alek Raymond


Alek swam in high school and competed in state.  Alek’s specialty was breaststroke as well as mid-distance freestyle. He now runs the Brigham City Community pool and continues to swim on a regular basis. He has been coaching B.E.S.T. since the beginning of 2014. He has a lot of great swimming experience. 

Coach Mike Ruf 


Mike has been coaching with BEST since the fall of 2014. Previous to that he was in the army. He also coached swimming for several years with South Summit High before coming to Brigham City. Mike swam butterfly when he competed in high school. 

 Ashley Burbank

Ashley has been swimming competitively for 10 years. She swam in region and state several times, receiving medals in multiple races. She also has her name on the record board for Box Elder High School, where she was in a record breaking relay.  Ashley started coaching with BEST in May of 2015.
